Impact Austin is creating a program called Impact Austin Together. This is a gift card program that can support small businesses, especially those not currently able to be open. Any person looking to support these businesses can purchase a gift card here on our one-stop-shop for businesses in Mower County. Once you have done so, you will receive an email voucher that you can print out (or show in your email on your phone) which you will be able to redeem at that business once they reopen. The goal of this program is to get funds into the hands of businesses as quickly as possible, and this program would offer businesses who may not have the technological ability to set up websites and virtual gift cards the ability to do so. Business owners will receive the money quickly from our program partner (the Development Corporation of Austin) to help generate a small bit of income to help while they are closed or in a reduced operating environment. This is a free program for businesses in Mower County to take part in; there is no joining fee.
The second part of this program is a philanthropic incentive for you as community members to purchase these gift cards. Our program partners will match $1 for $1 on whatever is spent on gift cards, up to the cap of funds we have raised. So far, we have secured $10,000! Those matching funds will go directly to the Salvation Army of Austin to assist with their high demand for emergency housing funds, utility payments, prescription medication costs, food shelf and community meals. We believe this would be a great partnership that will help you to take that risk of buying a gift card to support local businesses, knowing there is a possibility that the business in question may not survive financially.
If you have any questions, please contact the Impact Austin Coordinator, Mary Anne Duren, at firstname.lastname@example.org or one of the Impact Austin leadership team members.
